BIKRAM YOGA is a style of hatha yoga performed in a heated room (40 deg C, 40% humidity).

The sequence is comprised of beginner's postures designed to engage and stimulate your whole body. The way we teach the class is accessible to even those with no yoga experience or those working with limitations. The Bikram sequence of postures works synergistically and progressively – each posture preparing the body for the next. You really get a work-IN as well as a work-out! Because the sequence is unchanging, slowly, you start to notice that YOU change. The heated environment is challenging for most people to start with and like anything new it can take several classes for your body to adapt. The heat provides an opportunity to open and strengthen both the body and mind.

Hatha yoga, the physical branch of yoga practice, is a beautifully simple and accessible system that helps build physical, mental and emotional awareness, mobility, and concentration. The object of concentration is the body, and from that physical focus flows physical and non-physical benefits. Through hatha yoga practice you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and a deeper understanding the world around you.

Here's what our students have to say about our classes:
Frequently Asked Questions:
What should I wear and bring to the class?
• Wear light and comfy exercise clothes that you can sweat and move freely (e.g. shorts and a singlet top) as It's hot and humid in class.
• A bath or beach towel to put over your mat (or hire at the studio)
• A water bottle (or buy water at the studio)
• Yoga mat if you have one (or hire at the studio)
• Your biggest and best smile!

Also, arrive 10-15 minutes before class, so you have enough time to meet your teacher, settle in and be acclimated to the heat. Let us know if you have an illness, injury or medical condition before the class begins.

Avoid eating a large meal within 2-3 hours prior to class. But if you are hungry have a light snack, like a piece of fruit. Most importantly, arrive hydrated for class. For most of us, this means drinking a bit more water than we normally would during the day before your class.

And turn off your mobile phone while in the studio ; )
Do you have changing facilities?
Yes, we have male and female changing facilities which include showers.
Is Bikram Yoga for everyone?
Bikram's yoga series is a beginner's sequence of hatha (physical) yoga and is suitable for people of all levels, ages and ranges of abilities, including those working with injuries.

Don't worry about whether you don't feel flexible or strong or have good balance - these are all great reasons to try yoga. The point at which you are starting is just that and we will help you progress from there. By coming in with no pressure on yourself, trying what you can of the postures, with your body as it is today, you can start to get benefit from your first class.

As with any form of new exercise, if you are unsure about whether or not you should be doing Bikram yoga due to a specific medical condition please consult with your physicican.
How often should I practice?
You can practice as often as you like, but you will see great health benefits and well-being from practicing 2-3 times per week.
I had an injury in the past, can I still practice?
Yes, we will help you modify the postures to accomodate injuries! As with any form of new exercise, if you are unsure about whether or not you should be doing Bikram yoga due to a specific medical condition or injury please consult with your physician.
I'm pregnant or just had a baby, can I practice Bikram Yoga?
First of all, you must get your doctor's OK before joining us.

Whether to continue your practice is dependent upon your medical professional's advice as well as your history of Bikram yoga practice. If you have never done Bikram yoga before, we recommend that you wait until 3 months postpartum to come in and try your first class with us.

For further information about practicing safely during pregnancy and/or to schedule a private class with one of our experienced teachers to learn the pregnancy modifications, please inquire via phone or email.
